Malaria
About Malaria
Kills over 600,000 people annually, mostly African children under 5. Mentioned in ancient Chinese and Egyptian texts. Quinine from cinchona bark was the first treatment. DDT spraying eliminated it from many regions before insecticide resistance developed. Insecticide treated mosquito nets substantially reduce infections. The WHO recommended the first malaria vaccine in 2021.
